Een perfecte locatie, vindt EFC, want ondanks een turbulent verleden is Sarajevo een plaats van hoop, vrede en tolerantie gebleken. Het thema van dit jaar is ‘Rethinking Europe: Solidarity, civil society and political governance’.
‘One hundred years after the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand in Sarajevo, which triggered the onset of World War I, Europe is again in the midst of increasing political, economic and social unrest’, zegt Gerry Salole, directeur van EFC. ‘As foundations we have a crucial role to play and, over the three days, we will be discussing how we can contribute towards the prevention of conflicts, aiding reconciliation and securing a peaceful future for Europe.’
Meer dan vierhonderd sleutelfiguren uit de Europese fondsensector gaan de uitdaging aan. De conferentie bestaat uit diverse bijeenkomsten en discussies. Sprekers zijn onder meer Timothy Garton Ash, Yaroslav Hrytsak en Janusz Reiter. Uiteraard is er ook weer ruimte om te netwerken in informele setting.
